Books for kids and grown-ups

Jessie Kim

Big topics, made gentle and usable.

I spent my career in public finance turning intimidating numbers into plans people could actually follow. Now I write books that do the same thing for everything else, for kids and for grown-ups.

The same job, every time

Every book I write does one thing: it takes something that feels big, unfamiliar, or intimidating, like the national debt, a stage, a screen you can't put down, or a first day of school, and makes it clear, gentle, and usable.

That's a skill I built over years in public finance, where my job was to take budgets the size of phone books and turn them into decisions real people could make. It turns out the same translation works for kids, for feelings, and for everyday life.

I live in California with my family. Most of my books begin close to home, with something I wanted to explain gently to my daughter, to a reader, or to myself.
